A Look Back at 2025 in Animal Health

2025 was a year of acceleration for animal health, but with that acceleration comes a reckoning. If 2024 was the year veterinary biologics proved their potential, 2025 has been the year the industry learned what it takes to deliver that potential at scale. As advanced biotherapeutics continue moving from promise to practice comes a hard truth… innovation doesn’t matter if integrity is lost in transit. The science has to survive the journey.

Cryoport Systems spent this year making sure it does

We focused on what matters most for animal health. Logistics and transportation, engineered for precisionShipping Systems that have been qualified for real-world conditions. Documentation and Chain of Compliance® that transform track and trace into audit-ready records. We embedded continuous monitoring into every mile, and reinforced the short distances (the first and last mile) that often carry the greatest risk. And we raised the bar, again, for quality assurance with ISO 21973 certification, signaling that the same rigor applied to human biopharma can (and should!) apply to animal health. And throughout it all, we delivered more than 5 billion doses of biotherapeutics to protect animal health worldwide.

For animal pharma, complexity became the new normal this year. Vaccine and therapeutic approaches continued to diversify, while global trials compressed timelines. Sponsors are increasingly looking for partners who not only deliver shipments, but deliver confidence. That means qualified shipping systems that are custom-engineered to protect advanced therapeutics, Chain of Compliance records that are audit-ready, and even consulting and advisory support to navigate increasingly complex shipping lanes and global, multi-site trial logistics. We delivered that confidence

For livestock operations, the stakes in 2025 were immediate and consistent. Pregnancy rates, immune coverage, biosecurity… all delivered against timing that aligns with the rhythm of the modern farm. The risks were subtle but costly. From temperature drift during transit to missing documentation to a shipping route planned for yesterday’s weather, the risks were hiding in plain sight. We engineered against those risks. Our validated equipment and excellence in animal health logistics continued to close the gaps global carriers don’t cover. The result? Fewer surprises and biologics that arrive ready for use.

For veterinary practices, reliability this past year was more than convenience, it was care delivered as intended. Practices faced lean staffing and unpredictable appointment volumes while increasingly administering therapies that tolerate no margin for error. We focused on alleviating as much of this burden as possible, ensuring inventory arrived with integrity (and documented Chain of Compliance to match), allowing clinics to focus less on administrative burden and more on the animals entrusted to their care.

More than isolated wins, these are the broader trends that are shaping the industry. Biologics are getting more sophisticated. Regulatory expectations are converging upward. Climate volatility and geopolitical shifts are testing resilience. And markets are demanding transparency as fiercely as they demand speed. In this environment, logistics plays a key role in the success of the science. The programs that succeeded in 2025 were the ones who treated it as such.

Looking ahead into 2026 and beyond, it’s clear that quality must travel. That means qualifying shipping systems for the real-world conditions they face, embedding continuous monitoring into every mile, and insisting on traceability of equipment and shipping systems alike from origin to outcome. It means designing for resilience before disruption strikes. And it means intentionally choosing partners who not only move materials but protect the science behind them.

At Cryoport Systems, that’s the work we’ll keep doing. Because whether it’s a global trial, a livestock vaccination or breeding program, or a time-sensitive therapy in a veterinary clinic, the outcome depends on more than innovation. It relies on a supply chain built to carry it. We’re proud to be Enabling the Outcome™ for our clients and the patients they serve, and are excited for all that is to come as we move forward into the new year.
