Celebrating Logistics, the Unsung Hero in Cell and Gene Therapy Innovation

Every June 28, National Logistics Day offers a chance to step back and recognize the systems and people that quietly (but critically) power the innovation engine for cell and gene therapy (CGT). While the word logistics frequently brings to mind images of trucks and warehouses, stacks of cardboard boxes, and tracking numbers, when it comes to advanced therapies and biopharmaceuticals, logistics is something much more vital. For CGT developers, logistics isn’t a back-office function, it’s the infrastructure that protects innovation and ensures that time-sensitive, potentially life-changing treatments reach patients intact and on time.

At Cryoport Systems, logistics has never been just about transportation. It’s about Enabling the Outcome™. Today, we celebrate not only the complexity and resilience of our global logistics network, but also the growing community of biopharmaceutical innovators who rely on logistics and supply chain providers like Cryoport Systems in their development journey. We’re honored to play a role, however small, in bringing their advanced therapies to the patients who depend on them.

Logistics are the Backbone of Success

The science behind advanced therapies is extraordinary. Engineered cells and personalized medicines are reshaping the future of care. But translating scientific discovery into therapeutic reality doesn’t happen in a vacuum. It happens across miles, between collection sites and manufacturing centers, testing labs and biostorage facilities, clinical trial sites and the patients themselves.

Every mile introduces risk. Temperature fluctuations, delays, regulatory hurdles, and variability in handling. Unlike traditional pharmaceuticals, advanced therapies are often irreplaceable. One temperature excursion could compromise an entire therapy. That’s where specialized logistics and supply chain management comes in, not just as a support, but as a critical enabler of therapeutic success.

From Risk to Readiness

Cryoport Systems was built specifically to serve the life sciences industry, and our role in the CGT ecosystem continues to expand as therapies become increasingly complex and global. What sets us apart is not just our infrastructure, but our understanding. We know that for cell and gene therapies, there are often no second chances. There is no room for error.

From custom-engineered and validated shipping systems with continuous monitoring to a full platform of supply chain management services and support, we provide the end-to-end capabilities needed to de-risk the pathway to commercialization.

Our global network supports clients at every phase, whether they’re designing early-phase trials or preparing for launch. And through every handoff and border crossing, our systems are built to ensure that materials remain in compliance and within specification, protected from uncertainty.

A Platform for Therapeutic Success

On this National Logistics Day, we want to spotlight what “logistics” truly means to us. It means building platforms of predictability in a field known for variability. It means transforming fragmented handoffs into unified, audit-ready supply chains. And it means providing solutions tailored to the unique needs of each therapeutic developer, CRO, and CDMO we serve.

Some of the ways we support our partners include:

  • Temperature-controlled systems engineered for CGT: From cryogenic to controlled ambient temperatures, our packaging is fully validated for performance, reusability, and compliance.
  • 24/7 monitoring and alerts: Continuous condition monitoring, proactive intervention when needed, and centralized data visibility across every shipment.
  • GxP-compliant global facilities: Strategically located for clinical trial support, distribution, storage, commercial distribution, and customs-cleared flow-through.
  • Specialized consulting services: Including regulatory and trade guidance, shipping system and packaging qualification, shipping lane validation, and full shipping risk assessments.

More than service offerings, these capabilities are foundational elements that ensure therapies retain their integrity from origin to destination and at every stage in between.

Innovation Through Collaboration

As we look to the future, we anticipate that logistics and de-fragmented supply chains will only grow in importance. As CGTs move beyond oncology into new indications like neurology, rare diseases, and autoimmune conditions, the complexity of supply chains will increase. So too will the need for scalable logistics platforms.

On this National Logistics Day, we reaffirm our purpose to Enable the Outcome™ by safeguarding the journey. From vein to vein, bench to bedside, we’re proud to be the trusted logistics partner behind the most advanced therapies in the world.

Happy National Logistics Day to the planners, the protectors, and the pioneers behind the scenes. Your work is essential. Your impact is real. And today, we celebrate you.
